Professor Mindi Anderson, an internationally recognized healthcare simulation expert, was named associate dean for simulation and immersive learning at UCF’s College of Nursing.

As associate dean, Anderson will provide leadership for simulation and immersive learning across academic programs at the college. She will also provide guidance to the college’s leadership team, faculty, and staff on applying innovative technology for teaching, learning and research.

In addition, she will advise on immersive educational activities and simulation, including virtual, augmented, and mixed realities.

Anderson was an early pioneer in the emerging field of healthcare simulation education. She was among the first cohort of internationally certified healthcare simulation educators and today holds an advanced certification. Her research over the past 16 years has helped establish industry best practices, and have been presented nationally and internationally.

She continues to advance nursing science in simulation and technology to enhance nursing education and patient care, and is part of an interdisciplinary UCF team that has been issued several patents. Her current research includes virtual and augmented reality for healthcare education and practice, and other innovative simulation technologies.

For her significant contributions to the field, she has earned the prestigious titles of fellow of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare Academy, fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, and fellow of the Academy of Nursing Education. She has also been honored with several awards, most recently the Outstanding Scholar Award by the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties and a UCF Luminary Award.

Anderson joined UCF in 2015 and is the inaugural program director for the healthcare simulation graduate program at the college. She was appointed to interim associate dean for simulation and immersive learning in September 2022. Her new role became effective in December 2023.
