Faculty

Assistant Professor Rui Xie holds appointments in both the UCF College of Nursing and the UCF College of Sciences in the Department of Statistics and Data Science. His research encompasses the domains of statistics, biostatistics, machine learning and public health. His primary focus revolves around advancing statistical sketching and sampling techniques tailored for handling large-scale streaming dependent data. The methodologies he has developed find wide-ranging applications across diverse fields. These applications include streaming online learning and sampling, spatial pattern reconstruction utilizing sketching methods, and decentralized computing. To foster interdisciplinary collaboration and address data science challenges effectively, Dr. Xie actively engages with researchers from various disciplines outside of statistics. His collaborative efforts extend to nursing science, psychology, computer science, geophysics, electrical and computer engineering, as well as mechanical engineering. By leveraging insights from these diverse domains, Dr. Rui Xie brings a comprehensive and multidimensional approach to tackling a variety of complex data science problems.
