Janet Lopez is a nurse scientist who is dedicated to addressing health inequities through a comprehensive approach. She focuses on developing innovative strategies to improve health outcomes for underserved communities. After completing her post-doctoral fellowship at the Veterans Rural Health Resource Center (VRHRC) in Gainesville, Florida, she concentrated on promoting health equity among rural Veterans and Hispanic populations. Motivated by a strong desire to tackle the unique challenges faced by this population, her research interests center around minority health, rural health and bridging healthcare inequities. Over the past six years, she has led various research projects aimed at understanding and addressing the distinct health needs and challenges of Hispanic Veterans. Her contributions include the development and implementation of culturally adapted interventions for Hispanic Veterans and their families, which have advanced the field of health equity. In her teaching, she strives to train more nurses to provide culturally appropriate care and encourage them to develop an interest in research and pursue research opportunities.
