Faculty

A faculty member at UCF from 2003 until his retirement in late 2020, Paul L. Desmarais began his career in 1975 as an orderly at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens, Ohio. In 1978, after earning an associate degree, he took a position as a staff nurse in the ICU at what is today Southern New Hampshire Medical Center before progressing to a charge nurse position and then nurse manager of the telemetry unit. Later in his career, Desmarais served as critical care coordinator and acting assistant chief nurse at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Manchester, New Hampshire, eventually retiring from nursing practice in 2014. Desmarais began teaching in 1993 at Rivier College in New Hampshire and remained there until 2003, when he accepted a visiting associate professor position at UCF. His teaching focused on adult and critical care.
