Annette Bourgault, PhD, RN, CNL

A widely published researcher and frequent presenter, Dr. Bourgault focuses her research on the areas of critical care, evidence-based practice, and verification of feeding tube placement. In addition to her faculty role at UCF, Dr. Bourgault is also a research scientist with Orlando Health.

Most recently, her research on evidence-based practice and de-implementation were published in Critical Care Nurse and Nursing Forum. Her research on CORTRAK superuser competency for feeding tube placement was accepted for publication in the American Journal of Critical Care.

In addition to focusing on the implementation of evidence-based practices by critical care nurses and verification of feeding tube placement, she has expanded her program of research to explore factors that influence tradition-based practices. De-implementation of tradition-based practices is a developing area of interest in dissemination and implementation research. Her ultimate goal is to help nurses in critical care and acute care settings incorporate research evidence into their clinical practice.

Prior to her academic career, Dr. Bourgault practiced in critical care nursing working in the U.S. and Canada in roles as staff nurse, clinical educator and clinical nurse specialist. Additionally, she has been actively involved with the American Association of Critical Care Nurses at the national level focused on evidence-based practice. She was recently appointed as the Associate Editor for Critical Care Nurse.
