From the Dean
Welcome to the UCF College of Nursing.
This is an exciting year for us as we transition from a School to a College of Nursing. College designation reflects the growth and depth of our programs as well as the successes in attracting top researchers, funding and exceptional students.
The College of Nursing recently launched a new doctoral program, the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). This program prepares nurse clinicians for leadership roles in specialized areas of advanced nursing practice.
Faculty research continues to flourish in areas such as clinical factors related to endotracheal tube cuff pressures, weight loss and physical activity to decrease risk factors for cardiovascular disease, alcohol screening and intervention in college, information fluency, stigma related to HIV/AIDS, and ovarian cancer. Students work with faculty to learn the research process and mentorship can be observed at all levels of the program.
Students are engaged in Community Nursing Coalitions throughout Orange, Seminole, Flagler, Brevard, and Volusia counties. As our numbers grow we have the opportunity to touch more lives in order to promote the health and well being of Floridians.
I am grateful to our alumni and friends for your support and interest in our students and programs.
Sincerely,
Jean D'Meza Leuner, PhD, RN, CNE
Dean and Professor
